Figuring out the last thirty pages of West Side. Index cards become pages of dialogue and thumbnail sketches and each card gets distilled down to a comics page. Rounding third and headed for Home. . .desktop

Two more West Side pages. Very early in the morning Hyman runs into an old acquaintance, Elsie.

So I am up to page 45 of my WEST SIDE comic. It’s about the Jewish community on the upper west side of New York City and the Irish-American Community on the West Side’s Hell’s Kitchen in 1980. On page 36 Jonny gets shot. He’s not happy about that. Here are the pencils next to the final inks (w/ color). Two panels; the first where he just got shot and then his reaction to it. In the panel where he is looking over his shoulder I realized, as I was inking, that he needed to look a little more pissed off. After all, he just got shot. In the pencils he looks a little more resigned to his fate. But he survives. That’s because he’s got spunk.
